PM Howard to stay on

John Howard is set to continue his successful stint as Prime Minister of Australia after announcing his intention to stay on for another election.

Australia’s Prime Minister, John Howard has confirmed that he will be continuing in office and will be leading the Liberal Party to the next election.

Despite being 68, he is still held in high regard amongst his peers, and his achievements since winning office in 1995 are beyond impressive, including.

  • He has steered the Australia Government to be free of Foreign Debt,
  • Achieved annual budget surpluses in each of the past 9 years,
  • Shown positive economic growth for 9 years straight,
  • Implemented many historic personal tax reductions,
  • Brought inflation stable throughout his term in office,
  • Driven Unemployement to the lowest level in decades.

His decision to contest the next election is a brave one, particularly with the recent pressure on him from his heir apparent, Treasurer Peter Costello, but they seem to have worked things out for now.

The ongoing political stability of John Howard would be welcome news for property investors, who have enjoyed a sustained growth phase over the past decade whilst he has held office.
