The Australian Property Council has welcomed the government's response to heritage plans in Adelaide.
It commended the announcement of a public consultation draft of the Heritage Development Plan Amendments, saying the city will see critical elements of its historic character protected while allowing for much-needed growth.
"The property council believes strongly in protecting Adelaide's soul, its mojo - and a lot of that comes from the character of our historic buildings," commented the body's executive director Nathan Paine.
"We have always argued that heritage can be retained without preserving the city in aspic."
He called for a better process to protect vendors and purchasers of Australian property that may be subject to interim listings and said the property council will continue to work with the government and Adelaide City Council.
The latest Summary List of Buildings Proposed for Local Heritage Listing details hundreds of Australian properties, mainly in residential areas.
