Ms Bligh put forward plans that would see the establishment of new zones along public transport corridors, which would open up room for higher-density development, while the 'no-go zones' would protect the low-density nature of established suburbs.
Steve Greenwood, the Property Council's Queensland executive director, told Australian Property Investor: "What the government is responding to there - and it's a good thing to do - is there's a growing level of concern in the community that all the suburbs could go to high density."
He explained to the publication that he believes the government should see the proposals through with action so that it meets its infill development target.
Figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics recently showed that housing starts in Australia increased by 15.1 per cent in the December quarter.
