Australia was acknowledged as the 3rd best country in the world by the United Nations in this years Human Development Index. This was the same position Australia achieved last year.
Coming in ahead of Australia were Iceland and Norway respectively, so unless you have a passion for the cold, and I mean real cold, then Australia is your best place to head to.
The index which looks at issues including life expectancy, education, wealth, health and standard of living, has been established to measure the desirability of a country relative to each other.
This result will come as no surprise to the 160,000 plus migrants that arrived in Australia last year to start a new life down under, and should be no shock to the 21 million population which enjoys living in Australia.
The weather in Australia is very mild in winter and in most parts is equivalent to a summers day in many other countries (have you been to UK in summer recently!) so our population is very fortunate to have the climate and lifestyle that is the envy of the world.
Other countries to rank well included Canada 4th (2006 6th), France 10th (16th), United States 12th (8th), United Kingdom 16th (18th) and New Zealand 19th (20th).
Popular Expatriate zones in Asia of Hong Kong and Singapore came in 21st and 25th respectively.
Australia’s consistent high ranking is a key reason why incoming migration numbers continue to achieve record levels and a steady inflow of returning expatriates is experienced each year, both of which combine to further underpin the strength of the Australian economy and property markets.
