The Latitude Development Group has received development approval from Whitsunday Shire Council to incorporate a state-of-the-art conference centre into its $70 million Peppers Coral Coast Resort project in Airlie Beach.
The company agreed to incorporate the conference facilities catering for up to 100 people after lobbying from Whitsunday Shire Council and Tourism Whitsundays.
The Whitsundays is one of Australia’s most desirable locations for international delegates attending Australia-based conventions. Figures released by Tourism Whitsundays show that in the three months between October and December 2005, a total of 3412 people enquired about conference facilities, which converted to 6226 potential room nights in the region.
The decision to include the conference facilities’, which will feature the first broadband internet facilities of any conference centre in Airlie Beach, has been hailed by Whitsunday Shire Mayor Mario Demartini.
“Latitude Development Group has clearly understood the vision of the council and Tourism Whitsundays in creating the necessary infrastructure to maximise our reputation as a tourism destination of choice throughout Australia and around the world,” Mr Demartini said.’
Tourism Whitsundays CEO, Matthew Williams, echoed the sentiments, saying a top-line conference centre is critical to the continued growth of the region’s tourism infrastructure.
“Because of this growth, there has certainly been a shortage of conference accommodation to meet expanding new markets, in addition to supporting what is a strong existing conference market,” said Mr Williams.
There are 18 conference venues already operating under Peppers Retreats, Resorts and Hotels throughout Australasia.
Peppers Coral Coast at Airlie Beach is one of Australia’s best selling apartment developments, with more than $35 million in sales since its market launch five months ago.
