Tax Residency Changes Survey - September 2023

SMATS Group was at the forefront of having the Residency change rules scrutinised when we arranged a Parliamentary Petition on the matter in August 2021 which gathered 5,730 signatories and has led to this review.

Chief amongst the proposed changes was the introduction of a Residency test if you were in Australia more than 45 days.  This will of course have a significant impact on almost every Australian expat at some time, so it is critical that we look to have a voice heard loudly during this review.

I am pleased to confirm that on the 22nd September we submitted our response to the Consultation Questions including the responses to our important Residency Change Survey. Click here to view our Submission.

I would like to extend a special thankyou to the 860 plus people who took the time to undertake our survey. This provided important feedback and data to support our arguments and position, as well as make some sensible recommendations for alternative options.
